Cricketing profile

Dhoni burst into the cricket field with complete zest in 2004. He immediately established himself as a swashbuckling batsmanmahendra_singh_dhoni besides being a good wicketkeeper. He was credited by critics, 'as the man who can decimate any bowling attack with his powerful hitting'. Dhoni has so far played in 66 One-Day Internationals for India in which he has amassed 1958 runs. He has a highest score of 183 not out which he achieved against Sri Lanka in Nagpur.

Dhoni is known for his awesome strike-rate of 98.49 and averages 46.61 per match. He hit 10 Sixes, the most by an Indian in an Innings, and the second highest in ODI cricket. Till date, he has managed to climb the third spot while Sachin Tendulkar slipped to the 19th in the International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day international ranking till February 2007. However his first trip to world cup did not fetch him any applaud due to his unexpectedly poor performance.

After the loss to Bangladesh in 2007 Cricket World Cup, the house that Dhoni was constructing in his home-town Ranchi was vandalized and damaged by political activists. The local police arranged for security for his family as India exited the World cup in the first round.

With the built in shame and the will to win back the world of fame, Dhoni rose back to his stardom within a years time. Twenty20 match was a blessing to the young Indian team headed by Dhoni to win all that they lost. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 World Twenty20 against finalist Pakistan Team. He made the attempt to give India the celebration of 1983 World cup. Kudos to the hero who dared to achieve what he dreamt with his humble leadership techniq

dhoniMahendra Singh Dhoni started his first class career in the year 1999-2000. His one day international debut came after playing five years of first class cricket on the 23rd of December 2004 against Bangladesh. The venue of the match was in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Unfortunately, he was run out on the first ball he faced. It wasn’t a great debut for him where batting is concerned. Luck wasn’t on his side in the first four matches he played. Where as on the fifth match which was played against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam, Dhoni came to the crease one down and managed to score 148 runs from just 123 balls. He hit 15 boundaries and four sixes. He got his first man of the match award that day. Not only a good wicketkeeper but Dhoni proved himself to be a first class batsman too. He is one of the few finest wicketkeeper batsman India has seen after a very long time.

On the 31st of October, Dhoni broke the record of highest runs scored by a wicket keeper by securing 183 runs against Srilanka which was played at Jaipur. Adam Gilchrist was the former record holder with 172 runs.

Before he started playing cricket, he was a football goalkeeper. Its said he drinks around four litres of milk everyday but he denied it by saying that has been exaggerated a bit. He said he loves milk and drinks around a litre on a daily basis. On the 2nd of December 2005, Dhoni made his Test cricket debut against Srilanka which was played in Chennai, India.dhoni_action
Achievements:
Highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs (183 not out); highest number of sixes (10) in an ODI innings by a wicketkeeper (most by an Indian); highest batting average for a wicketkeeper

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the new poster boy of Indian cricket. With his long mane and swashbuckling batting style, Dhoni has the whole country drooling over him at this moment.

Dhoni got his big break in the Indian team courtesy his exploits against Pakistan A, in the triangular tournament in Kenya, where he destroyed bowling attacks with disdain. After making his one-day international debut against Bangladesh in Chittagong in December 2004 Dhoni remained subdued in the first four matches he played.

It was his fifth one-dayer, against Pakistan at Vishakapatnam, which heralded MS Dhoni's arrival at the big stage when the dashing wicket keeper cracked a dazzling 148 from just 123 balls. Dhoni followed it with another cracker of an innings against Sri Lanka on 31 October 2005, when he clobbered his way to a mammoth 183 off just 145 balls, thus breaking Adam Gilchrist's record for the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. During this blitzkrieg, Dhoni also broke Saeed Anwar's record of most runs scored off boundaries by scoring a total of 120 runs off 4s and 6s eclipsing the previous record of 118.

Riding on the good showing in the One-Dayers, Dhoni made his Test debut against Sri Lanka and in only his fifth Test, scored his maiden century to help India avoid follow-on against Pakistan. Ever since, Dhoni has been a crucial member of the Indian side.
