Microsoft launched the next version of Windows, dubbed Windows 7. The problem is: a majority of current Windows users still use XP, which is getting to be nine years old now. After the launch of Windows Vista, people had no option but to buy PCs pre-loaded with Vista. Some paid extra to "downgrade" to Windows XP.
The main issues with Vista? Widespread reports of sluggishness, frequent hangs and crashes, and incompatibility with certain software and hardware. Vista was basically a troublesome experience.Somewhere down the line, Microsoft had lost touch with consumers. And it has worked hard to correct the shortcomings.Windows 7 was available for thousands of Beta testers worldwide since January, and Microsoft listened to what they had to say. Many bugs have been ironed out -- this time before the official release of the product. According to PC vendors, market acceptance of Windows 7 is much higher than it was for ...

The Intel Developer Forum showed that the chip-making giant is overclocking its product development efforts to blitz the smartphone and consumer electronics market. Even though PC and server chips account for the bulk of Intel's revenue, executives at the San Francisco event last week made it clear that the company believed the future lies in markets where Intel has very little presence. To change that around, Intel had one word: Atom. The low-power processor that ships today in most netbooks is being down-sized quickly to fit into smartphones and CE devices, particularly high-definition TVs and set-top boxes. Intel expects both markets to help keep its revenue-generating engine running in high gear as growth in the aging PC market grows. "The PC market in general isn't going to grow as quickly as it used to," John Spooner, analyst for Technology Business Research, said. "It's that simple. They need to expand their base to keep ...
Intel on Wednesday introduced Core i7 quad-core processors for laptops, bringing to market its highest-performing mobile chips to date. The new products, which include an extreme edition for gaming systems and professional workstations, were unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco. The Core i7 chips are based on Intel's current 45-nanometer Nehalem microarchitecture. Codenamed Clarksfield, the latest processors bring Intel's turbo-boost technology to laptops. The feature increases the clock speed of individual cores in a processor to dynamically meet workload demands. The core frequency is increased at intervals of 133 MHz until the upper limit is reached. For example, a Clarksfield processor running at 2 GHz can be upped to 3.2 GHz using turbo boost, Dadi Perlmutter, Executive VP and General Manager of the Intel Architecture Group, said during his IDF keynote Wednesday. During the speech, Perlmutter showed a new Core i7 Extreme Edition running a gaming system from Alienware. The new ...
